This $12 gadget makes my old sweaters look good as new

These days, I’m all about optimizing my time, money and space. When I’m tired of half-worn clothes piling up on a chair in my bedroom, I’ll find an affordable solution. If I have a tension rod lying around, I’m going to use it to make a tiny (but cute!) storage space in my house. When I have a lot of fresh food in the fridge, I’ll find a way to make my groceries last longer so I can use everything before it goes off.

Which is why my latest find is quickly becoming the hero of my laundry room, because it not only saves me money but it hardly takes up any space at all.

Conair

The Conair fabric shaver and lint remover is a pint-sized, hand-held sweater shaver that works a bit like a tiny fan, sucking in loose lint and fabric pills and whooshing them away, leaving behind a smooth, good-as-new fabric surface.

Battery operated and portable, this tiny tool is an essential in every closet or laundry room.

It’s extremely easy to use, too. With a comfortable ergonomic grip and three depth settings that allow you to safely shave fuzz, pilling and lint from sweaters, coats, pillows, couches and other furniture, it’s safe to use on almost all household fabrics. It’s also portable because the shaver head is no bigger than 2 inches and it runs on two AA batteries (that aren’t included). The fuzz is caught in the detachable lint catcher for easy disposal.

I purchased this fabric shaver a few years ago on an impulse, and I’m glad I did. Now, I reach for it seasonally, especially when I’m unpacking sweaters and transitioning to my winter wardrobe. Its small stature can easily be stored in a dresser, a cabinet, a drawer or even a shelf in your laundry room, which is where I store mine.

Just this week, I used it to freshen up a sweater I purchased last winter that I noticed was beginning to pill and looking a little worn. You can see the before and afters below. Quite a difference for just a few minute’s time!

Of course, a product this effective hasn’t flown under the radar. In fact, it has racked up over 127,000 reviews on Amazon alone, where it has a 4.4-star rating. More than 6,000 shoppers have purchased this little gadget in the last month alone.

Suffice it to say, I’m not the only one who’s discovered the power of this small tool to refresh tired clothing and furniture.

«This is a great little tool,» wrote a five-star reviewer. «I bought it for a cashmere sweater that was getting quite pilled and this device works perfectly. It cut all the pilling and the sweater looks like new. It is well made, light weight, easy to use and attractive.»

It’s not just for use on clothing, either. This fabric shaver can be used on fabric furniture as well, as recommended by several of the top reviewers on Amazon.

«I bought the shaver because my couch material keeps balling up in certain spots, especially around the sides and the corners and I used the fabric shaver on it and it worked amazing!» wrote another reviewer. «It’s quick and easy and simple to use!!! My last fabric shaver didn’t work half as good as this one.»

«I can’t believe how entertaining this is, it’s like mowing my grass!» wrote an enthusiastic reviewer.

If you, like me, are keen to freshen up some of your favorite sweaters this winter, don’t dillydally on this find. It just might save you time (and money!) in the long run.
