The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi has risen to 66, with 26 people still missing, according to the Philippines’ Office of Civil Defense.

The powerful storm has battered the country since Sunday, affecting more than 706,000 residents and forcing thousands to evacuate. Cebu province was hit hardest, recording 49 deaths and widespread destruction.

Social media videos showed cars piled atop one another and residents stranded on rooftops as fierce winds swept the region.
