A video creator has pointed out the glaringly obvious difference between kids’ shows on the Disney Channel and on Nickelodeon that has gone completely unnoticed until now.
In a viral clip, Reeves Connelly highlighted that the set design on Nickelodeon programs would be styled in a very ‘childish’ manner because parents were, more often than not, not the main characters.
Meanwhile, Reeves noted that over on the Disney Channel, the sets would be more ‘ordinary and realistic’ because parents were often in the main cast.
Taking to social media, Reeves explained to his 1 million Instagram followers: ‘In most Nick shows, the parents weren’t the main characters, so the sets were designed to look like a kids’ dream home, so the furniture was very over the top and childish.
‘But the Disney sets were supposed to give off the vibe that a parent lived there because they were usually main characters, so the furniture was way more ordinary and realistic.

Comparatively, Reeves Connelly highlighted that the set design on Nickelodeon programs would be styled in a very ‘childish’ manner
‘And, if you notice the Nick shows that had parent characters like Drake and Josh had very realistic sets and the Disney ones that didn’t had very fake looking sets.’
Reeves also observed that Nickelodeon shows tend to have sparsely furnished sets because they would have to ‘rearrange the furniture all the time to shoot these random performance scenes’.
Disney, on the other hand, would rarely do the same with its kids’ shows, which meant they could ‘fill them out with more furniture and props to up the realism factor’.
It’s fair to say that many social media users were left stunned by Reeves’ revelation.
One wrote: ‘So true Disney looked way more realistic when it came to the homes and suburban living.’
‘Drake and Josh’s room was not realistic,’ another said.
A third continued: ‘This is the kinda analysis I live for.’
A fourth commented: ‘I always felt odd for the sets but never had the words to explain why, thank you.’

‘Nickelodeon was built on the niche of the child experience since there wasn’t really a space for children in television which is what spawned the sets to look childish,’ wrote a fifth.
Nickelodeon launched in 1979 and was the first cable channel for children.
Popular shows on the network have included Drake & Josh, iCarly, and Keenan and Kel, which were all created by disgraced producer Dan Schneider.
Earlier this year, the damning documentary Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV exposed the ‘toxic environment’ at Nickelodeon.
Schneider, who was described as ‘Nickelodeon’s golden boy,’ is said to have ‘launched the careers of child actors who became major stars’ including Miranda Cosgrove, Jamie Lynn Spears and Ariana Grande.
But he has since been flooded with allegations before being sued over accusations of gender discrimination, hostile work environment and harassment – many of which were divulged the documentary.
The Disney Channel meanwhile launched in 1983.
It is home to shows such as Wizards of Waverly Place, Good Luck Charlie, and The Suite Life on Deck.
