The Issue: The City Council takes up new bills to crack down on illegal e-bikes in New York City.
I’m an avid cyclist and have personally observed numerous near-accidents on bike paths in recent months.
Officials should consider legislation that would require registration for high-speed e-bikes and scooters (“E-bike terrors put on notice,” Aug. 5).
E-bike safety education should be required for those who register and there should be stronger enforcement against reckless riding, speeding or illegal activities.

E-bikes that are going 40 miles per hour should be licensed and riding in the car lanes, following the rules of the road as our motorcycles do.
Bike lanes should be for non-motorized bicycles only as originally planned.

As the president of the Greater Whitestone Taxpayers Civic Association, I spoke to our state and city elected officials about the danger of e-bikes and ATVs in not only our community, but every community.
I asked a state official to introduce a bill in Albany to register, insure and provide licenses to people who operate these dangerous vehicles, and nothing was done.
Now, City Council Speaker Julie Menin is finally doing something about it.
It’s a shame that so many people have been injured or killed.
In plain English: It’s about time.

With all of the recent accidents and fatalities recently, now city officials are concerned about e-bikes.
But this has been a serious problem for a few years. E-bikes are a danger to pedestrians with no consequences.
If the City Council wants to regulate e-bikes, it should allow only people over 16 to ride them, limit the bikes to speeds under 25 miles per hour and mandate insurance so riders can take responsibility for accidents.

Crackpot liberals in the city have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to shut down the carriage-horse industry.
Meanwhile, thousands are injured from crazed e-bike riders and 133 people have died since 2019.
But the police aren’t allowed to do anything because enforcement of even the most modest rules and regulations is, of course, “racist.”

The Issue: Families of 9/11 victims calling for Mayor Mamdani to not attend this year’s memorial ceremony.
Mayor Mamdani isn’t wanted at the upcoming 9/11 services — but it’s not because he is Muslim (“ ‘Dude, we don’t want you here,’ ” Aug. 2).
His presence is not wanted because his divisive ideology leads him to believe America got what it deserved on that horrific day.
The narcissistic, unconscionable gall for him to think he’d be welcome anywhere near lower Manhattan by those still-grieving families is almost unbelievable.
The wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing nepo baby has revealed his authentically inauthentic self, and the families of the 9/11 victims cannot look away.
Neither can the thousands of people who’ve signed the petition to tell this fraud to shed his crocodile tears elsewhere on 9/11.

Last February, scum pelted police officers with snowballs, resulting in some officers even being hospitalized.
Our good mayor thought that was hilarious as he flashed his usual radiant smile.
Perhaps those coming to the 9/11 memorial should bring eggs and tomatoes with them.
Then, if Mamdani can manage to break from his embrace of unindicted co-conspirator Imam Siraj Wahhaj to be at the ceremony, those in attendance can pelt him so he can better appreciate what our cops had to endure on that winter’s day.
