In a first step to expand across the European region, social media app TikTok has launched its in-app shopping service in Spain and in Ireland.
TikTok has launched its TikTok Shop in Spain and Ireland, allowing its users to purchase directly on the social media app. «The service will offer users the possibility to purchase products and talk to businesses and creators in real time,» said the social media company in a statement, adding that «the option to sell products is exclusively for businesses based in Spain and Ireland.»
TikTok’s in-app shopping feature officially debuted in Spain on Tuesday, with products featured in digital shops, including electric fryers and health supplements, with prices ranging from €3 ($3.16) to €60, according to a list TikTok shared with creators and viewed by Bloomberg News.
Across Spain, 20 million people use TikTok every month, according to the company.
TikTok claims to work with trusted third-party payment platforms to facilitate transactions in a secure way.
The social media app is expected to launch its shopping services in France, Germany and Italy, too.
The service has proven to be one of the fastest-growing businesses of Chinese TikTok owner ByteDance Ltd. and its European expansion is seen as a push to find alternative markets after the company faces being banned in the US unless TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance divests its stakes in the social media company.
