PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Neither won the Players Championship on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass.

Yet both players won on a day when no winner was decided, with Rory McIlroy and J.J. Spaun headed to a three-hole playoff Monday morning.

Neither Danny Walker nor Bud Cauley was supposed to be in the field this week.

Despite both having significant ties to the area — Cauley growing up in the shadows of Sawgrass going to the tournament as a kid and Walker living in Jacksonville for the past five years — they were on the outside looking in as alternates.
