Among the infuriated at their team’s seeding in March Madness, Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy seemed subtly mad online at his Michigan Wolverines’ luck.
Mere minutes after winning the Big Ten Tournament title, Michigan found out that they would be awarded a five-seed in the South region.
Some, like Portnoy, may have been surprised by this – considering the team they beat in the title game, Wisconsin, was given a three-seed.
Maryland and Purdue, two other teams in the conference, were given four-seeds.
An irate Portnoy let the committee know of his anger as he posted within minutes of the decision.
‘By the way I I don’t care the committee was lazy and screwed us with that 5 seed,’ he posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament title, but were only given a five-seed in March Madness
‘To be honest I wanted Duke or UF [Florida] in the 1st round. That’s just how I’m wired as a Michigan Man. I want the best everytime I step on the court, field or boardroom. That’s the Michigan difference.’
Michigan had been playing at a slow-burn all season long and ended their season with a title.
But traditionally, the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee tends to ignore the results of the Big Ten Tournament specifically – because it usually ends less than an hour before the brackets are released.
What’s more, the committee paired Michigan with the 12-seeded UC San Diego – one of the teams with the most ‘upset’ potential in the tournament.
That said, the Wolverines do have some amazing talents – like twin centers Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf and guard Tre Donaldson.
Michigan plays its first game of the tournament at 10:00pm Eastern Time in Denver, Colorado on TBS.
