Here’s everything that happened in the dramatic final episode
*Warning – this article contains spoilers for Million Dollar Secret’s finale*
The winner of Netflix’s reality gameshow series to rival The Traitors has finally been revealed.
Viewers have been hooked on the new show for weeks with episodes dropping in batches. The final two instalments were released for subscribers today (April 9) which included multiple dramatic twists before the winner of $1 million was finally named.
Be warned if you don’t want to know anything about what happens in the last episode to look elsewhere as below follows major spoilers.
The show was left with the final four of Corey, Sam, Sydnee and Cara. As it stood, Cara was the secret millionaire after the money had exchanged places once again thanks to a second hidden agenda.
However, other players were unable to track down the new owners and avoid a kill shot ahead of the finale. It meant that Jaimi and Kyle were both eliminated in one swoop in the penultimate dinner.
The final guest activities saw the group work in pairs. They had to navigate their way blindfolded to the other side of the room and retrieve their box while avoiding lasers across the space. Hitting a laser would mean they need to remain frozen for 10 seconds. Whoever won, would be able to choose a member of the losing team to vote off in the final elimination dinner.
Corey and Sam just won out after some not so subtle sabotaging from millionaire Cara, who wanted Sydnee to be placed in the firing line. She got her way as the victors still couldn’t work out the truth over their final meal and voted off Sydnee.
Host Peter Serafinowicz revealed that the final task to determine the ultimate winner, would first see them thread five needles in the quickest time. Whoever finished third were warned they had a disadvantage while the millionaire began the challenge with the first needle already threaded.
Millionaire Cara finished first, with Corey second and Sam in third and it determined the order of the final game. The trio were made to decide whether or not they wanted to trade boxes. This element is more in line with ITV series Fortune Hotel, which saw contestants keep hold of briefcases.
Corey would have the chance to trade first followed by Cara. As she finished third, Sam was unable to move boxes herself but could discuss with the others to influence their decision. What they did would be kept secret from the others.
Before they did so, millionaire Cara questioned Corey, forcing him to declare several times if he had ever lied to her throughout the series. He insisted he hasn’t, but wasn’t away she had been hiding the truth from him.
Their interaction rivalled any final of BBC hit The Traitors and may have reminded some viewers of how Traitor Harry claimed victory in the last moments of the second series.
Knowing his box was empty to begin with, Corey swapped his box, ultimately choosing Cara’s. After a brief chat together, it was Cara’s turn after which she claimed she had to continue following her intuition. While we don’t see what her choice is, she was ultimately right as the trio open the boxes together and the cash was still in Cara’s box, meaning she was the show’s winner and final millionaire.
As they came to terms with the final reveal, Sam commented: «Wow, that was a twist. Ripped each other apart.» Her mouth also dropped open when it was revealed that Cara had lied about having two sisters. Host Peter Serafinowicz quipped, acknowledging she had hidden her real job the whole series: «Why are you looking shocked, you’re a cop!»
While the last episodes were only made available this morning, some viewers made sure they were up early to watch it as soon as possible. They have been quick to react with one person posting on social media saying: «YESSS. Just finished Million Dollar Secret and I’m so glad she won!»
Another added: «Cara played the f out of Corey and Sam. Corey was too entranced by her. She admitted to throwing the competition… when everyone is vying for a million dollars… . Aside from “scream” that was the most obvious clue in the game!»
Million Dollar Secret is streaming on Netflix.
