LA traffic camera captures mysterious orb floating over the city

A routine aerial traffic report quickly turned into a mystery when news helicopter captured footage of an unidentified object hovering over one of Los Angeles’ busiest freeway interchanges.

During a live broadcast monitoring commuter delays on Tuesday, a FOX 11 camera monitoring congested traffic conditions quickly reframed its shot to catch a strange sphere just above the freeway.

Clips of the flying object quickly went viral, drawing millions of views and sparking intense debate across social media. 

“Balloon? Drone? Aircraft? Something else? What makes this interesting is that it wasn’t filmed by someone out looking for UFOs — it just showed up during a routine news shot,” a user wrote on X. 

“Balloon crowd is going to have a hard time with this one. That path is too straight. Wind doesn’t fly a sphere across LA in a clean line with no wobble. Whatever it is, it isn’t just floating,” another person wrote on X, according to the Daily Mail.

The sighting comes after the Department of War released a batch of declassified files on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) or UFOs.

The release was initiated earlier this year after President Trump issued an executive directive targeting government secrecy surrounding unidentified flight activity.

The latest batch had a total of 71 files — 67 from the Department of Defense and four from Colorado law enforcement agencies, CBS News reported.

The collection comprises 55 PDFs, 15 videos, and one audio recording, spanning historical records from 1952 through 2025. The vast majority of the release remains heavily censored, with 64 of the 71 files containing redactions.
