Alexis Bledel is best known for playing Rory Gilmore in the US TV series Gilmore Girls, but she has now been cast in a new film alongside a star from an iconic 80s movie.
A Gilmore Girls favourite has been cast in a biographical drama alongside a legend from the horror film An American Werewolf in London.
Filming has recently concluded on the forthcoming biopic Joy Will Prevail, which centres on the final three years of Estonian-American architect Louis Kahn’s life and the relationships that shaped his last residential project.
Before his passing in 1974, Kahn was frequently hailed as «America’s foremost living architect», having designed iconic structures including The Salk Institute in La Jolla and the First Unitarian Church in New York.
The role of Kahn will be taken by Griffin Dunne, best known for his memorable performance as Jack Goodman in the 1981 horror classic An American Werewolf in London.
The 70 year old performer will appear alongside Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel, who famously brought Rory Gilmore to life across all seven series and the 2016 Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Following the show’s conclusion in 2007, Bledel has appeared in numerous productions including Girl Walks Into A Bar, Mad Men, Us and Them, and most notably as Emily Malek in The Handmaid’s Tale.
In Joy Will Prevail, Bledel will tackle another distinctly different character as she portrays Harriet Pattison, one of Kahn’s long-standing companions and a landscape architect.
The 1970s-set story follows Kahn at the pinnacle of his professional success whilst he discreetly manages a complex personal situation involving his wife Esther Kahn and two additional partners, all of whom are aware of one another.
Jennifer Beals, known for her iconic role as Alexandra Owens in Flashdance, brings the character of Esther to life.
Max Korman, the writer and director of Joy Will Prevail, shared his thoughts on the film: «The story behind Louis Kahn’s final residential commission exists in the tradition of the American Western: the passing of generations; the wanderer and the settler; a family taking root in a changing world.»
He added: «At a time when architecture is regaining cultural relevance – particularly in cinema – I’m excited to share this personal project, brought to life by an extraordinary cast and crew.»
Bledel has more projects lined up, including a starring role in Ponderosa, a drama currently in post-production. The synopsis reveals: «When the buffet where his mom works closes down, Zeke has to fend off this rich regular who claims he can solve all their problems.»
Gilmore Girls is available to watch on Netflix.
