These boots deserve an encore.
Amal Clooney went suede on suede for a night at the theater with husband George Clooney on Sunday.
The human rights lawyer, 48, joined him at New York’s Seaview Studio as he took part in a one-night-only reading of “Smear!,” a political comedy by his former “Good Night, and Good Luck” co-star Clark Gregg.
For the occasion, Amal brought back a caramel-colored Gucci suede trench from the label’s fall 2015 collection adorned with rounded gold buttons. She first wore it that same year to the Public Theater with a white Chloé dress and sandals.
Beneath the trench, she opted for an off-white mock-neck minidress and black pointed-toe suede boots that reached nearly the tops of her thighs. A black handbag and gold chain earrings finished the look.
A minidress and up-to-there boots is a go-to formula for the barrister. She appeared to wear the same black pair for a night out with George in February 2025, styled with a gray sweater dress and matching gray coat.
Back in 2018, she paired a beige suede version with a canary-yellow Lanvin coat for a dinner date with George. Even a lunch with friends in Notting Hill this January called for thigh-grazing boots, this time in cognac leather with a Stella McCartney minidress and Ermanno Scervino sweater.
Suede has been on heavy rotation for her this year. In July, she wore a vintage Thierry Mugler suede set trimmed in fringe for a boat day in Capri.
That swishy fringe came back in Venice in September, when she wore an aqua and silver Caroline’s Couture minidress for a celebratory dinner.
George had promised as much, saying in his Golden Lion acceptance speech, “We’re going to go find a fun place to have dinner, my wife and I,” adding, “she’s going to be wearing a very nice dress so we’ll have to be careful where we go.”
