A Lancet loitering munition has taken out Ukrainian army artillery weapon, according to new footage

A Russian Lancet kamikaze drone appears to have successfully destroyed a US-made M777 howitzer supplied to Ukraine, according to a video published on social media.

The short clip, filmed from a drone, emerged on Telegram on Sunday. The caption claims the Russian army’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) took out the American-made piece of artillery in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region.

The clip shows a target hidden in trees being hit by the kamikaze drone, causing a large explosion and fire. Two persons – allegedly Ukrainian servicemen who operated the howitzer – are seen running from the site of the attack.

It’s not clear when exactly the strike took place. Russia’s Ministry of Defense has so far not commented on the matter.

On Thursday, the Russian military published footage of a Lancet strike on a US-made M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzer hit at its firing position in formerly-Ukrainian Kherson Region. Another clip posted online shows a Lancet strike on a Plastun electronic warfare support station.

Amid the ongoing conflict, the Russian military has been actively using the loitering munitions against Kiev’s forces. Lancet has become one of the key medium-reach tools, primarily used to counter Ukrainian towed and self-propelled artillery, as well as certain high-value assets, such as short-range anti-aircraft systems or artillery radars.
