America’s best-selling luxury automaker is recalling nine models — including a car from another company.
On Friday, the federal regulators said BMW recalled 196,355 US cars.
Documents warn that a part in the engine starter that may corrode, which could spark a fire.
The recall impacts several high-powered coupes, sedans and popular SUVs. The list includes the 2019-2021 3-Series sedan, 2019-2022 Z4 roadster, 2020-2022 5-Series sedan, 2020-2022 X3 and X4 SUVs, 2021-2022 BMW 4-Series coupe and convertible, and 2022 2-Series coupe.
It also impacts 2020-2022 models of the Toyota Supra. BMW builds the Japanese sports car’s engine at a plant in Austria.
Regulators advise owners to park their cars outside and away from buildings until they’re able to get it fixed.
BMW said it will send letters to impacted owners on November 14 and will replace impacted parts free of charge.
Today’s safety bulletin is BMW’s 12th recall this year. So far, the company has recalled 316,463 cars.

Representatives for BMW and Toyota didn’t immediately respond to the Daily Mail’s requests for comment.
The current recall is by far the largest for BMW this year.
However, it is tiny compared to the recall notices posted by some of America’s best-selling brands.
This year, Ford leads the way with 116 recalls, the most a company has ever submitted in a calendar year.
Some of the blue oval brand’s recalls have impacted more than a million cars.
Chrysler (33), Volkswagen (21), General Motors (19), and Honda (16) round out the top five most-recalled brands.
Their issues have ranged between seat belt issues, engine part failures, accessory battery problems, and reverse camera glitches.
This year, the automakers have been launching over-the-air updates to fix a wide variety of their recall problems.
Ford previously told the Daily Mail that tech updates are ‘more convenient for customers compared to an in-person dealer visit.’
