Arne Slot signed a three-year deal when he joined Liverpool as their new manager last summer, but he is already raising the possibility of staying on at Anfield for longer
Arne Slot has opened the door on the possibility of a new Liverpool contract by admitting that he now understands why Jurgen Klopp decided to stay at Anfield for almost nine years.
The Reds boss is closing in on the Premier League title in his first season after succeeding the German – and captain Virgil van Dijk is now expected to give the Merseysiders another massive boost by following Mohamed Salah by signing a fresh deal that will keep him on Merseyside for another two seasons.
Slot signed a three-year contract when he arrived from Feyenoord last summer – and is reluctant to talk about his own circumstances. But the Dutchman insists that his affection for the club now goes beyond football.
Slot said: “It isn’t only the results. The people who work here and the fans we have are, I think, what makes this club so special.

«I know the outside world is looking at all the goals or the wins we make. But I think that to enjoy your life on a daily basis, you need to be happy from when you drive in.
“That’s one of the reasons people like to be here. It’s why Jurgen stayed so long – and why Mo wants to stay here two more years despite being here for so long already. It’s why, in general, players, managers, people work so long at this club. There’s a great culture and a lot of nice people working here.
«From the start, I felt really welcome and really happy here in the way I can work at this club with the staff, with the players, with the facilities. It always helps if results are positive as well. That’s the X-Factor you need.”
Slot is closing in on becoming just the fourth manager to win the Premier League in his first season with a club, following on from Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte in 2005 and 2017 respectively, Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini in 2014 and Leicester’s Claudio Ranieri in 2016.
Liverpool host West Ham in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, when the Reds will seek to extend their lead at the top even further and close in on the title.
