At least three people have been killed and 12 others injured in an apparent explosive device attack at a railway station in Ovruch in northern Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service said on Friday.

A man detonated an explosive device during a document check, killing a female border guard and two civilians, the agency said. Domestic media reported the device was a hand grenade, citing the national police.

The bomber later died in an ambulance, the State Border Guard Service said.

The man who triggered the device was a 23-year-old resident of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, authorities said.

No link between the explosion and Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine has been established at this time.

Law enforcement, including the main directorate of the national police, is on the scene and an investigation is under way, Ivanna Siletska, a press officer for the Zhytomyr Oblast police force.

«All the circumstances of the incident are being established,» Siletska said.
