It appears that Derrick Henry wasn’t the apple of the Cowboys’ eye after all.
Henry, who signed with the Ravens, told “Mad Dog Radio” that “the Cowboys never called at all,” despite having lost starter Tony Pollard to free agency.
“I don’t really know what’s going on over there,” he said about the Cowboys.
Henry added in the interview that he was interested in meeting the Cowboys’ brain trust led by Jerry Jones and joining Big D, where he actually lives in the offseason.
“That’s where I stay in the offseason. I’m at the back end of my career. That’s a great organization. It would have been a great opportunity,” Henry said. “But I’m thankful I ended up here in Baltimore. Somewhere I wanted to be. They wanted me as well. It’s a perfect match.”
The Ravens signed Henry on the first day of free agency to a two-year deal worth $16 million.
He had previously showcased a spectacular eight-year career with the Titans, where he had double-digit rushing touchdowns in six straight seasons and even had 2,027 total rushing yards in 2020.
Henry now teams up with quarterback Lamar Jackson as perhaps the most formidable rushing tandem in the NFL, as the Ravens ran for 26 touchdowns in 2023, one off the NFL lead.
Dallas has yet to solve its running back problem, so perhaps it should prepare for a draft pick of a running back instead of opting for free agency.
With Pollard gone, the Cowboys are down to Deuce Vaughn as the lone active running back from last year’s roster.
Backup Rico Dowdle is still a free agent and could be brought back into the fold for the Cowboys, but there hasn’t been much movement there.
Dallas also could’ve opted to bring in Saquon Barkley but instead watched him go to division rival Eagles.
The Cowboys own seven draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, with their first pick coming in at No. 24.
Dallas is a typical rushing powerhouse and a strong offensive line anchored by All-Pro guard Zack Martin.
