- A couple made a TikTok showing a termite infestation in their new home
- They closed on the house just three days prior to finding the termites
- The couple warned other homebuyers to be aware when making a purchase
A couple is sounding the alarm for fellow homebuyers after their supposed dream home turned into a nightmare – just three days after closing.
TikTok user Hailey Ann shared a now-viral video documenting the moment she discovered a termite hive in her newly-purchased house, warning viewers to take additional precautions before buying a home.
The video, which has racked up more than two million views, shows Hailey walking into a room and zooming in on a termite-infested wall beside a window.
‘POV: You closed on your house three days ago,’ the on-screen text reads.
In the caption, she noted that the house had passed a termite inspection prior to the purchase.
So what went wrong?
According to an interview with People, Hailey said the buying process had been smooth – until the very last minute.
As she and her partner were en route to finalize the paperwork, their realtor informed them that termites had been discovered on the property.

The sellers allegedly reassured them that the issue had already been resolved by pest control that same day.
But just 72 hours after moving in, Hailey found termites in the exact spot they were originally discovered.
‘Honestly, I’ve been struggling a lot with just feeling like we made the right decision,’ she told the outlet, adding that the excitement of becoming homeowners quickly gave way to stress and regret.
And the nightmare didn’t stop there.
Within hours of exterminators returning to treat the problem again, a pipe burst in the home, soaking their floors and compounding the couple’s frustrations.
Hailey now wants other buyers to learn from her experience.
‘Have a really good real estate agent, because our agent has been an advocate for us,’ she said.
‘If we didn’t have someone that we trusted and knew what they were doing, I think we would have to be paying for this out of pocket.’

Commenters shared their own experiences with termites
She isn’t the only one who’s run into post-move-in surprises.
In the comments section of her TikTok, viewers chimed in with their own home-buying horror stories.
One wrote, ‘Those are termite tubes. You in trouble girl. I found them in my garage thought I missed with the dust pan, then they grew! Get someone out ASAP.’
Another commenter revealed, ‘Same we had to fumigate the whole house and then found a skunk in the foundation now the house smells like skunk… but the termites are gone.’
Hailey and her partner are now working closely with their real estate agent to resolve the issues, but she says the stress has put a serious damper on what should have been an exciting milestone.
Her final piece of advice?
‘If something feels off – even last minute – don’t be afraid to ask questions or walk away.’
The couple’s ordeal serves as a sobering reminder that even ‘dream homes’ can come with hidden costs.
