A diagnosed psychopath who works as a homicide detective has lifted the lid on his lifestyle – as he admitted that he only ‘likes’ his wife and daughter but is incapable of loving them.

The unnamed man allowed people on the web to interrogate him as he took to Reddit‘s Ask me Anything thread to answer any burning questions about his personality.

He revealed that he was diagnosed as a psychopath by ‘three’ different therapists – insisting that he is ‘not a serial killer.’

The anonymous police official revealed that he was married to a marriage counselor and has one daughter – who is also diagnosed psychopath.

Before getting candid about his life he confessed that he came from a long line of psychopaths and that his wife knows the dark truth about him.

The post was titled: ‘I am a psychopath and a homicide detective, ask me anything.’

He wrote: ‘As the title suggests, I’m a diagnosed psychopath (high-functioning ASPD, technically) by three different psychiatrists/clinical psychologists.

‘Since I know these will be asked, I’ll just add some general background on myself. I am a homicide detective (no I am not a serial killer). I have a master’s degree in forensic psychology.

‘I am married to a marriage counselor and have one adult daughter from a former relationship. I see a lot of stuff about psychopaths that are mostly all one sided, and chances are you’ve run across a psychopath or may have one in your friend group or bed.’

People on the web flooded the comments section to get a chance to ask the psychopath a slew of questions.

Some users wondered how he could be married – with many questioning if he loved his wife and daughter.

He replied: ‘No. I like them, I like spending time with them and talking to them but I can’t say I love anyone or anything. My daughter is also a psychopath.’

The anonymous poster also revealed that his wife knew about his condition prior to marrying him.

What is high-functioning ASPD?

People with high-functioning antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) can often do typical ‘everyday’ things like hold down a job and maintain a marriage.

However, these otherwise typical behaviors often hide a tendency to manipulate and exploit people and situations for their benefit.

ASPD isn’t common. Between one to four per cent of the population is estimated to have this disorder, with males three to five times more likely to be diagnosed than females.

It’s not clear exactly why some people develop higher functioning ASPD but some people are more likely to develop this type of ASPD than others.

Factors that may cause high-functioning ASPD include gender, genes, conduct disorder, trauma and unstable childhood.

He said: ‘Yes, she does. It is how we met actually.

‘She knew what she was getting into when we first met and we talked about my feelings, or the lack thereof even before our first date.

‘I did cheat a couple of times in the beginning, I was never very good at relationships until her and didn’t see anything wrong with it.

‘She broke up with me when she found out before giving me another chance. I haven’t since then.’

The unnamed detective also revealed that he was very good at ‘manipulating’ people – adding that it helps him.

He also said that no one ever truly understands him.

One user asked: ‘What would you say is your strongest ASPD trait?

‘Do people close to you ever label you as «hard to read?»‘

‘Manipulation. It’s very helpful in my line of work, letting the suspect we’re interrogating think that we have more evidence than we do in the hopes of getting them to crack and confess.

‘I don’t use manipulation much outside of work. Never with my wife.

‘Some, yes. Truth is that only a few know the real me, the rest is part of the manipulation.

‘They see me the way I want them to see me,’ he replied.

And he confessed that he realized the truth about his personality when he was a child – adding that he hasn’t cried in a very long time.

Asked about the last time he shed a tear, the man responded: ‘Not since I was a toddler. Seeing kids cry also disturbed me, when I was a kid. I didn’t get it.’

According to the psychopath, the condition runs in his family as he claimed it was ‘genetic.’

He said: ‘It runs in my family. I think genetics is always a part of it. I believe in nurture more than nature, but with psychopathy for me, it is nature. I was born this way.’

Luckily, he revealed that his condition has helped him in his field of work as it makes him more able to go into a case without any emotions and connect with a criminal.

He explained: ‘Yes. Emotions don’t affect me, it doesn’t cloud my judgement. It also helps when interrogating suspects, I can be who they need me to be, to get them to confess.

‘I only dealt with a few actual psychopathic killers, most are normal people who made a bad decision, usually because of their emotions.’
