A 13-year-old Florida girl dramatically escaped a kidnapping attempt on her way home from school by bravely fighting off her attacker.

Kymorah Reid had just gotten off the school bus in Lauderhill, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, around 5:30pm on October 7 when a young man ran up behind her and grabbed her.

‘I heard this guy like jogging or running behind me, so I moved out the way,’ she told NBC Miami

‘He came behind me and grabbed my legs and started dragging me on the floor and stuff.

‘I was screaming: «Get off of me. What are you doing?»‘

In surveillance video shared by Broward Crime Stoppers, the suspect can be seen dashing toward Reid and pouncing on her

The pair struggled for a few moments before the man took off as the girl started yelling.

She was uninjured and was able to run home to her mother.

‘My daughter ran in the room and said, «Mommy, somebody tried to kidnap me,» her mother, Lois Kerr, told NBC Miami.

Reid said she was happy that she reacted the way she did.

‘I know most people freeze up. They shouldn’t freeze up in the moment,’ she told WPLG

‘They should fight back and kick back.’

Police are unsure if Reid was targeted or the man was just ‘casing the area for a potential victim,’ but they have classified the crime as an attempted abduction, according to WPLG.

‘She was definitely a brave child to put up a fight,’ Lauderdale Officer Antonio Gonzalez told the outlet.

Police described the suspect as a young black man in his late teens or early 20s who was wearing a yellow shirt and red shorts.

He was also described as having short hair and a thin frame.

Reid’s mother was left shocked by the incident, but happy her daughter got away.

‘She’s safe. She’s gonna be all right, and I won’t leave her side,’ she told WPLG.

‘When I saw that [the video], everything inside of me, turned upside down. I couldn’t believe it was happening to me, to my child.’

Kerr thinks the young man needs to ‘seek Jesus’ and ‘turn himself in.’

Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000 for anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
