Viewers of EastEnders think they’ve solved a murder case, and what led to Nicola Mitchell having Shireen killed.

Shireen’s death was revealed on Monday night, four years after she vanished offscreen. When Harry Mitchell arrived in Walford last year it was revealed his girlfriend Shireen had gone missing years earlier, and he’d been questioned over her possible murder.

The storyline was revisited in recent episodes when Nicola suggested her ex Teddy Mitchell was to blame for Shireen’s vanishing act. Then on Monday, Shireen’s brother Asad arrived wanting answers after finding a new lead.

New evidence suggested she was followed by some men, leading to Asad accusing Harry’s dad Teddy Mitchell of being her killer. Harry himself was accused after he and Shireen had a blazing row before she disappeared.

At the end of Monday’s episode Nicola made a dark confession as she met with a man named Benji, and asked him where Shireen was. He claimed she was at an industrial estate, implying he’d buried her somewhere that no one would find her.

Her fate was then confirmed when Nicola revealed she’d had Shireen killed, with it seeming Benji did the grim job for her. Now she’s hiding the truth from everyone.

But what led to Nicola having Shireen murdered? Viewers are convinced they have unearthed a big secret that might explain things, amid a theory that Asad and Harry may have secretly been a thing.

Viewers are suspecting it might not have been the case that Shireen found out about Asad and Harry, but instead she discovered another big secret. We recently learned that Zack Hudson is the biological father of Nicola’s son Barney Mitchell, while he’d been led to believe Teddy is his dad.

No one knows the truth except for Zack and Nicola, but what if Shireen somehow found out Teddy was not Barney’s dad? Fans think this happened and Nicola killed her to silence her, to stop the secret from being revealed.

One viewer posted online: «Considering what she did to Zack I’m leaning towards Shireeen found out about Barney’s true parentage and Nicola had to shut her up. I think it’s interesting she said ‘I killed that girl’ rather than ‘I had something to do with it / had her killed’ etc.»

A second fan posted: «Did she find out that Barney isn’t Teddy’s and threaten to tell?» A third added: «I think Shireen found out about Barney not being Teddy’s,» as a fourth wrote: «Shireen knowing that Barney isn’t Teddy’s is also plausible.»

So might Shrieen have learned one of Nicola’s secrets and threatened to spill the beans? More will be revealed about the big murder twist soon!
