eBay is making a huge change to its delivery options later this month. Private sellers will only be able to use eBay’s “Simple Delivery” as their postage method when listing items on the platform from April 15, or from April 7 to existing listings that are eligible.
“Simple Delivery” is already available as a delivery option on eBay but change means it will become compulsory. Private sellers using this service have to confirm the size of their parcel and then the postage price will be calculated. Once your item sells, you’ll receive a QR code and label that you’ll need to print off.
After this, you then need to drop your item off at the nearest carrier location, or schedule a home collection. There will be a few exceptions where you won’t have to use “Simple Delivery”, such as low-priced, bulky items, and items that are for local pick-up. eBay claims sellers will save 20% on postage costs.
The move will also change how quickly sellers will receive money from their sales – as they will have to wait for the buyer to confirm they have received an item. Sellers will be paid two days after they receive the delivery confirmation if they use one of eBay’s prepaid labels.
eBay has been emailing sellers to inform them about the change. The email reads: «We’re continuing our mission to provide you with a great selling experience on eBay, which is why we made it free to sell. Now, we’re enhancing delivery so it’s faster, easier, and more secure for you to send your items.
«Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing most items. There’ll be a few exceptions, such as low-priced, bulky items, and local pick-up, which aren’t eligible for Simple Delivery.
«Simple Delivery is our all-in-one delivery solution, designed to cut out all of the effort and save you money. It’s also the fastest way to get paid on eBay. Plus, buyers will benefit from savings and enjoy the peace of mind that tracking offers.»
It continues: «Simple Delivery will apply to new eligible listings by private sellers in the UK, and from 7 April to any existing listings that are eligible. If you selected buyer-paid postage, this will stay the same when your listings are updated. If you’re covering the costs, they’ll be deducted from your sales.»
It comes after the selling site added a new buyer fee in February this year. This fee is included in the price of the item you’re buying and is made up of a flat fee of 75p per item, plus 4% of the cost up to £300, then 2% of the cost between £300 and £4,000. You don’t pay any additional fees above £4,000 – meaning the most you can be charged is £86.75.
There are no buyer fees for car, motorcycle and vehicle listings. eBay removed all selling fees in October last year, meaning sellers keep more of the cash they make through the website, as they no longer pay final value fees, regulatory operating fees, or an insertion fee when they sell on eBay.
