What’s new for Germany 2024?

Telegraph Fantasy Football is steeped in history and its players enjoy the simplicity and consistency of a game that has been around for over 30 years. With this in mind, we try to change as little as possible each year, only adding things that we are certain will improve the enjoyment and competitiveness of the game.

Here are a few changes to get excited about this summer…

App

If you only occasionally participate in editions of Telegraph Fantasy Football you may have missed the launch of our app. The app makes TFF even easier to access – crucial if you need to make a transfer with a deadline looming.

Teams, players and positions

We welcome Georgia to the European Championships main event for the first time in 2024. Eagle-eyed Telegraph Fantasy Football managers will already be familiar with a handful of their players, such as winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and striker Georges Mikautadze; whereas some managers may need to spend some time scouring the player list.

Again, if you haven’t played TFF recently, you might now know that we do our best to classify attacking-minded wingers as forwards instead of midfielders. While this might make fitting all your superstars into one team a little harder, it does add a great deal of variety to team selection – enhancing competitiveness and enjoyment.

What else do I need to know?

Get your strategy right. Getting the balance of your team right can be a tricky business, especially with limited funds, but there are a few tried and trusted methods that will stand you in good stead:

Pick regular starters

Okay, so this isn’t always straightforward in the world of rotation where world-class players routinely find themselves sitting on the bench. That said, there are certain players who, if fit, are almost always the first name on the team sheet. Think Kylian Mbappe for France, Virgil van Dijk for Netherlands and England’s Harry Kane.

Find a couple of budget ‘enablers’

These players are hard to find and often come out of the woodwork once the tournament has begun, but during the Premier League season Cole Palmer, Jarrad Branthwaite and Guglielmo Vicario, are among a crop of players who began the term in the ‘unfancied’ category and are now must-have ‘enablers’. If you’re able to identify one or two of this type of player early in the tournament, you could be onto a winner.

Be transfer savvy

Unlike the Telegraph Fantasy Football Premier League game there are transfers aplenty for the European Championship. The most important thing is to pay close attention to the schedule and which games and teams you would like to target.

Telegraph Fantasy Football Player List

We aim to keep our player list up to date with all the latest squad announcements and the first place to look is our trusted Stats Centre.

The players available upon release of the game (24 May 2024) are provisional, and may not be reflective of the final 26-man squads submitted by each country. Once all squads are confirmed, the Telegraph Fantasy Football player list will be updated to reflect this. If you have selected a player that does not make the final squad, this will be indicated via an icon on the ‘Team’ page and you will have to remove them prior to the first game of the tournament.
