“I was so excited about the race that I didn’t even sweat,” Pedro De la Rosa tells The Independent. “I didn’t drink at all – back then if you didn’t put in a drinks bottle, you saved weight on the car. So, we didn’t even fit it.”

Lewis Hamilton is third-fastest, five-tenths off, with Alex Albon in fourth and Esteban Ocon in fifth.

6-10: Hulkenberg, Doohan, Lawson, Tsunoda, Piastri

Best out of the FP1 rookies? Williams’ Luke Browning in 13th.

Hamilton is five-tenths behind Norris… not great.

FIA are looking at an unsafe release between Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon, with the Williams released before Tsunoda.
