An American family has been rocked by tragedy after their 23-year-old son was found dead after going missing on their Bahamas vacation.
The body of Maryland native Dinari McAlmont was found on Paradise Island in Nassau on April 6, just 12 hours after he landed there with his parents.
His distraught mother, Michelle McAlmont, recalled the horrific moment she had to identify her son’s remains. She said he appeared to have been beaten up.
‘My son was beaten, he was traumatized, his face is damaged… his hair that he normally takes so much pride in… full of sand,’ she told Eyewitness News.
‘That tells me they beat my son down, I need justice for my baby, I need justice,’ she added, while breaking down in tears.
A postmortem examination is underway to determine the tourist’s cause of death.
On Friday, the McAlmont family left their home in Bowie, a city located around 20 miles northeast of Washington DC, for what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation.
They were staying at Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, and grabbed dinner together on the first night.

During dinner, Dinari left his family to explore the resort, and his parents said hotel employees came to their room enquiring about his whereabouts a few hours later.
They checked their phone location-sharing services but found his inactive, so began searching the resort.
The Dinaris were unable to find their son, so they created a missing person’s flier in the hopes someone had seen him.
But their worst fears were realized when a hotel employee delivered the devastating news that Dinari had been found dead.
It’s unclear whether his death is being treated as suspicious, as police investigate.
Atlantis resort expressed condolences for the Dinari family, and said they could not comment while the police investigation was ongoing.
‘We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our guests,’ the resort told DailyMail.com in a statement.
‘Our condolences are with the guest’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
