Jorge Lopez has landed on his next team.
The former Mets reliever, whose on-field outburst and postgame comments led to his demise in Queens, agreed to a minor league deal with the Cubs on Wednesday, according to The Athletic.
Lopez was released by the Mets on June 5 after he was ejected and threw his glove into the stands at Citi Field during a May 29 loss to the Dodgers.
The situation only became more bizarre after the game.
Lopez expressed no regrets about the incident while speaking with reporters in the locker room and there was confusion about what he had said regarding comments about him being either the worst teammate in the MLB or the Mets being “the worst team probably in the whole f–king MLB.”
The Mets designated Lopez for assignment after the whole thing and he was subsequently released by the organization.
He joins the Cubs organization after appearing 31 games for the Mets this season while compiling a 3.76 ERA and striking out 19 batters over 26 1/3 innings pitched.
Lopez has bounced around Major League Baseball with stints in Milwaukee, Kansas City, Baltimore, Minnesota and Miami as well as in Queens.
It’s expected that he’ll start in Triple-A Iowa and try to work his way back up to the Cubs bullpen.
Chicago has a bullpen that ranks 24th in MLB in ERA and it is without the likes of Adbert Alzolay, Julian Merryweather, and Yency Almonte.
The Cubs were 32-35 on the season and sat in third place in the NL Central heading into Wednesday’s play.
