Ja Morant is the individual named “Professional Athlete 6” in an FBI complaint filed last month against the seven Chilien men charged with the break-ins at the homes of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow and Bobby Portis, according to a new report.
Citing law enforcement sources, the Daily Memphian named Morant as a previously unnamed victim of the seven illegal immigrants that boosted more than $2 million in valuables from some of sports’ biggest names.
The burglary at Mornant’s home occurred sometime between 4 p.m. on Dec. 19 and 1 a.m. the next day.
Morant and the Grizzlies had been playing the Warriors that same day at FedExForum on the night of Dec. 19.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office did confirm that an active investigation was underway related to a “burglary at the home of a Memphis Grizzlies player” on Dec. 20.
“Detectives are actively investigating the case, pursuing leads and working to identify those responsible. To protect the integrity of this investigation, we are unable to release the victim’s name or address during this active investigation,” Spokesman Lt. Joseph Fox told the Daily Memphian on Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, the FBI complaint stated that the robbers stole “jewelry, watches and luxury bags valued” around $1 million.
The Grizzlies declined to comment to the AP and Morant declined to comment through a Memphis official.
The gang of men who had allegedly robbed the well-known athletes were eventually arrested during a traffic stop in Fairborn, Ohio on Jan. 10.
The men have been identified as Pablo Zuniga Cartes, 24; Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, 20; Bastian Jimenez Freraut, 27; Jordan Quiroga Sanchez, 22; Bastian Orellano Morales, 23; Alexander Huiaguil Chavez, 24, and Sergio Ortega Cabello, 38.
All seven have been charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property.
