Hoboken City Council President Jen Giattino died suddenly Tuesday after serving more than a decade in office, New Jersey officials said.
She was 53.
Giattino’s tragic death was announced by Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, who remembered his colleague as a “bright light” and dedicated public servant.
“Her kindness, humility, and quiet determination made her a cherished figure whose impact will be felt for generations to come,” Bhalla wrote in a statement Tuesday evening. “There are no words to describe the sense of loss we are all feeling.
“Jen was a leader in our community and fighter for all of us.”
It wasn’t immediately clear how Giattino died.
She was first elected in 2011, clinching reelection in the next three city council races, according to reports.
