Amidst a wave of backlash from Canadians for his perceived indiscretions against his own country in his support of US President Donald Trump, hockey icon Wayne Gretzky is suing a former business partner.
Gretzky, the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer and point scorer, has sued Veera Mahajan – a woman the former hockey star was in business with.
Mahajan sued Gretzky back in 2022 for his alleged role in the downfall of a business called ‘OMG’ – an acronym standing for ‘Overeating Management Gum’.
Now, according to TMZ, Gretzky is suing her three years later while claiming that her suit was meritless.
Mahajan initially filed the lawsuit after the former Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers star claimed he lost 35 points in a few weeks while consuming the product.
She says this testimonial led her to invest in the product – only for Gretzky to later admit that he lied about the weight loss.

Wayne Gretzky is suing a former business partner for what he says is a frivolous lawsuit

Gretzky says the woman who sued him over his claims that he lost weight by chewing this brand of weightloss gum constitutes malicious prosecution and he is seeking damages
It ended up tanking the business – with Mahajan suing Gretzky for fraud and seeking unspecified damages.
Gretzky fought the lawsuit in court. Just two years after suing him, in 2024, Mahajan filed to dismiss the case.
But now, Gretzky is suing her for the initial lawsuit – claiming that her case was frivolous from the beginning.
The 64-year-old Gretzky says that he never lied about his weight loss. He also added that he believed his claims were not the only reason why the company went belly up.
He claims that Mahajan only filed the suit under the belief that Gretzky would settle ‘for millions in order to avoid potential negative publicity.’
Gretzky’s suit accuses Mahajan of malicious prosecution and he is seeking unspecified damages.
This case, and the Mahajan filing before it, are not the only lawsuits that Gretzky is tied to from this business venture.
Just days before Mahajan filed her complaint, the company’s founder – Steven Sparks – also sued Gretzky with similar allegations. That case remains active.

Gretzky has been criticized by Canadians for his support of US President Donald Trump

Hockey Hall of Famer and fellow Trump supporter Bobby Orr (R) stood by Gretzky in an op-ed

Orr’s words were seen by Gretzky’s wife, Janet (L), who thanked him for his support
Gretzky has been in the news recently as fellow Canadians have criticized him for supporting Trump amid the American President’s repeated threats and sanctions.
Last month, Trump posted on Truth Social praising Gretzky and calling him a ‘fantastic guy’ and saying that he could ‘run for any political office in Canada, and win.’
But then Trump added this kicker: ‘Wayne is my friend, and he wants to make me happy, and is therefore somewhat ‘low key’ about Canada remaining a separate Country, rather than becoming a cherished and beautiful 51st state… He’s the Greatest Canadian of them all, and I am therefore making him a ‘free agent,’ because I don’t want anyone in Canada to say anything bad about him.’
Gretzky was defended by fellow Canadian hockey legend Bobby Orr, who is also an avid Trump supporter.
Orr’s words were posted in an op-ed in the Toronto Sun. After that was published, Gretzky’s wife Janet thanked him for defending Wayne, saying, ‘i have never met anyone who is more Proud to be a Canadian and it has broken his heart to read and see the mean comments . . He would do anything to make Canadians Proud , with his Love for Hockey and his Country.’
Gretzky was seen at a victory party for Trump at Mar-a-Lago after he won the November election and has previously been seen wearing a MAGA hat.
