A Hollywood child star who shot to fame in Malcolm in the Middle was barely recognisable 24 years after his starring role.

Frankie Muniz, 38, who played the titular character in the sitcom, recently teased a reboot of the popular noughties show.

Frankie has returned to TV screens on the Australian version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! after he was revealed as a campmate.

The new series which is filmed in South Africa kicked off on Saturday night as a new cohort of celebs headed into the jungle.

But as Frankie was unveiled as one of the celebs set to take part in the gruelling endurance show, he looked worlds away from his recognisable role.

Ahead of his appearance, Frankie teased a revival of the show which made him famous starring the original cast is in the works.

The series will celebrate its 25th anniversary of its season 1 premiere in January 2025.

Speaking to PEDESTRIAN.TV ahead of his I’m A Celebrity appearance, Frankie said ‘without giving away too much because there’s nothing confirmed, but it’s the closest it’s ever been to being a reality’.

Speculation about a reboot has been ongoing for a number of years, and now discussions are underway, with the cast keen to return.

‘I think it’d be a lot of fun to dive into that world and see where everybody is, as adults because really, the possibilities are endless where everybody can be,’ he said

‘I’d love to explore it. And I know there are conversations happening,’

The actor will be appearing on the series alongside Australian radio host Brittany Hockley.

The rest of the cast will be unveiled during Sunday night’s premiere.

Muniz has admitted he will have ‘no idea’ who any of his cast mates are as he doesn’t know ‘anybody’.

The story arc of each episode tended to centre on the various hijinks of Malcolm and his markedly less intelligent brothers.

‘The show ended 18 years ago so it’s crazy that there’s still a lot of interest,’ he added.

The update comes as Frankie has been revealed as the Hollywood star set to appear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here Australia season 10.

‘We want to make sure it’s good. With an iconic show like we had, you don’t want to taint it. You want to have the same impact for the people who would want to watch it.’

Along with Frankie, the show also starred Bryan Cranston, 68, as Hal, Jane Kaczmarek, 68, as mom Lois, and Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield and Erik Per Sullivan as brothers Francis, Reese and Dewey respectively.

The seven-time Emmy-winning comedy centred on gifted middle child Malcolm, who boasted a 165 IQ.

He admitted to The Daily Telegraph that he has been asked to appear on several seasons of the show before he finally agreed.

‘It was always something that the schedule didn’t work and the show doesn’t air in the US so to be honest, I wasn’t quite sure exactly what it was,’ he said.

The star notably put his Hollywood career aside to focus on race car driving, and also was briefly a drummer for a band called You Hang Up from 2012 until 2014.
