Health isn’t just about living longer – it’s also about living better. 

And as people’s general lifespan increases, they’re shifting their focus on how to improve that quality of life as well. 

CEO of L-Nutra and longevity expert Dr. Joseph Antoun told DailyMail.com that he works to help bridge the gap between scientific research and practical solutions that help people live longer, healthier lives.

‘The science of longevity is becoming democratized as more research demonstrates that simple interventions – from nutrition timing to stress management – can profoundly impact biological aging,’ Antoun said. 

And after years of research and treating patients, he said that he has a few general tips that can help people not only live longer, but also have more fulfilling and healthier lives. 

Focus on relationships

Dr. Antoun explained that social capital is crucial for emotional well-being and longevity. 

This is why it’s important for people to nurture meaningful relationships and create a strong sense of community. 

He said to prioritize connections with family, friends, and your community. 

This can look like scheduling a shared meal with loved ones, joining a community group that meets regularly, or calling a friend.

Eat well

This one shouldn’t be much of a surprise, but Dr. Antoun emphasized the importance of nutrition in your journey to living longer and healthier.

‘Food is the only product we consume multiple times daily, making it a critical factor in longevity,’ he said.

Whether this means choosing a healthy diet that works for you or making sure you’re always getting as many nutrients as possible, Dr. Antoun said that your nutrition should absolutely be made a priority.  

Exercise

Again, this is all about making healthy choices for your body.

‘Regular physical activity is essential for both physical and mental well-being,’ Dr. Antoun said. 

‘Even short bursts of exercise can have significant benefits.’

He said that finding an activity you enjoy and making it a consistent part of your routine is key.

And if you don’t have much time to get in a full workout, he suggested taking morning walks, parking farther from entrances so that you have to walk further, taking the stairs instead of escalators, and standing up every hour at your desk.

Manage stress

Stress can cause a lot of damage to the body.   

‘Chronic stress can accelerate aging, so it’s crucial to have effective stress management techniques,’ Dr. Antoun said. 

He suggested meditation and mindfulness, as they can be extremely beneficial to relieving stress. 

‘Also, don’t underestimate the importance of setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care,’ he said.

Get good sleep

Most people are not well rested, and this is affecting their ability to live longer, healthier lives.

Dr. Antoun said that quality sleep is fundamental to health and longevity. 

In fact, good sleep hygiene can significantly impact your overall health and longevity.

‘Aim to maintain a consistent sleep schedule, create a relaxing bedtime routine, and optimize your sleep environment,’ Dr. Antoun said.
