Fantastic Four is in cinemas, with Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn taking on the role of Johnny Storm
Marvel’s first family is set to hit cinema with the newest iteration of The Fantastic Four.
The new film will see a brand new take on the classic characters for the first time since the rights were transferred from Fox studios back to Marvel and Disney. As a result, the creative heads describe it as their first standalone movie.
That means that fans do not need to see any of the dozens of previous Marvel movies to enjoy it. Along with it, is a whole new cast taking on the major roles. That includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Netflix star Joseph Quinn.
Quinn takes on the character of Johnny Storm, who is also known as the Human Torch. It is a role that was previously played by Captain America’s Chis Evans and Michael B Jordan in the 2015 iteration.
But what is there to know about the Stranger Things star off-screen and is he dating anyone?
Early life and breakout roles
Born in Clapham, in 1994, Quinn attended a private school in Battersea after securing a drama scholarship.
The 31-year-old started acting at a young age and gained his professional training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where he graduated in 2015.
Before his Stranger Things debut in 2022, Quinn had appeared in various TV shows. He notably featured in BBC’s period drama Dickensian, in which he played Arthur Havisham, a character from Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations.
He got his big break as Eddie Munson in season four of Stranger Things. Despite the part being career-changing, Quinn has shared that the auditioning process was simple.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2022, he said: «I sent two tapes from my home in London to America and the Duffer brothers [creators of the series] watched both, and then after that, they gave me the job, which is mental! That never happens. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sent tapes to America and no one answered, so it was kind of a crazy thing.»
Quinn has also played minor roles in Game of Thrones, ITV’s Timewasters and a TV adaptation of Les Misérables. Most recently, the Londoner starred in A Quiet Place: Day One opposite Oscar award-winner Lupita Nyong’o, followed by Warfare and Gladiator II before Fantastic Four.
Doja Cat romance
Quinn is believed to be dating rapper Doja Cat, real name Amala Dlamini. The couple were spotted holding hands in London this August, which fans took as confirmation of their relationship.
Although the pair haven’t confirmed their romance, Doja Cat’s interest in the actor has been public knowledge since 2022.
Following Quinn’s Stranger Things debut, the rapper sent a message to his co-star Noah Schnapp on Instagram. She wrote: “Noah can you tell Joseph to hmu [hit me up]. Wait no. Does he have a gf?”
In the same exchange, she asked for Quinn’s Instagram username, after Schnapp advised her to «slide into his DMs.»
Schnapp shared screenshots of the private conversation on his TikTok account and later deleted the post when Doja Cat expressed she didn’t feel comfortable with him sharing it, prompting a very public fall out between the pair. Two years on from the incident, Quinn and the songwriter do appear to be in a relationship.
