Let’s address the elephant in the room head on: this is an expensive umbrella. It is probably far more than the average person will ever pay for an umbrella in their lives. And if you take one look at it and think ‘this is for people with more money than sense’, then keep scrolling.
For those looking for a luxuriously stylish umbrella, lovingly constructed with a real wood handle and shaft and 24” stainless steel frame to give as a handsome gift to a loved one or just to themselves, then you could find nothing finer.
London Undercover’s umbrellas exude the kind of properly done, fine quality which used to be synonymous with London tailors and shoemakers. Everything feels high quality, from the smooth wooden handle to the smart leather clasp. Carrying this umbrella made me feel like an Edwardian gentleman or perhaps Mayfair-based spy chief. You can even have your initials engraved into the tip cup for an even more personal feel.
The canopy is 106cm (42”) in diameter so it’s generous for a single person or a slim couple, but not quite as vast as a standard golf umbrella – more like something for taking on a walk around the park in the rain, or ambling home from a trip to the theatre on the rainy streets than a quick dash to and from the shops.
The downside to the solid wood and stainless steel construction of this umbrella is that it does feel a bit heavy after carrying it for a while. Some will value that sense of solidity, especially when it gets windy and this umbrella refuses to buckle, but perhaps only those with strong wrists.
