For those who don’t know, Today host Hoda Kotb famously loves a drunken FaceTime.
Her Today co-host Jenna Bush Hager has endlessly teased her about it on the show, noting that it usually happens in the late afternoon rather than the middle of the night because of Kotb’s particular schedule. And anyone can fall victim to Kotb’s FaceTime calls, especially if they’ve been on the show.
So it came as no surprise when Bush Hager playfully warned singer Teddy Swims against falling victim to Kotb’s FaceTime calls.
Kotb and Bush Hager were discussing Swims’ music at the top of the show before he joined them on set, complimenting his “soulful” songs.
“He’s kind of giving me Zac Brown vibes when I’m looking at the picture there,” Kotb commented.
“Oh great,” Bush Hager replied as Kotb seemingly expressed her interest in the singer. She turned to the camera and said, “Teddy, do not give Hoda your phone number. The sun’s gonna be just barely going down, and she might have had one drink, and she’s gonna call you, Teddy.”
Kotb did not disagree as she laughed at Bush Hager’s comments. “FaceTime, not call,” she corrected.
Bush Hager corrected herself before reiterating towards the camera, “Do not give it to her.”
The Today hosts later shared a laugh with Swims after Bush Hager once again warned him against giving Kotb his personal phone number.
“There’s gonna be some FaceTiming, that’s gonna be happening and she likes to FaceTime before the sun goes down. That’s when she hangs,” Bush Hager told the singer.
“That’s my magic hour,” Kotb joked.
“That’s what I’m all about, I love that,” Swims replied.
Kotb’s not the only one who likes to FaceTime people after a round of drinks. Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees revealed during a visit on Today that he and his wife once tried to “drunk FaceTime” Kotb while they were in New Orleans, but she didn’t pick up.
“The phone was off, it was on silent,” he said at the time. “We missed you, though.”
As Kotb laughed, Bush Hager asked Brees, “Has she ever drunk FaceTimed you? Because it’s around 4:45, 5 p.m.”
“No, but I’m waiting for that!” he replied.
Today with Hoda & Jenna airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
