Jets defense carries the blame for season disaster loss to Colts

What if I told you …

  • The Jets offense scored 27 points, their highest output of the season.
  • Their lead running back, Breece Hall, looked like the dual-threat weapon he’s billed as, rushing for 78 yards and a TD on 16 carries and catching seven passes for 43 yards and a TD.
  • Their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, after an anemic start, completed 22 of 29 for 184 yards and two TDs.
  • Their ballyhooed mid-season acquisition, receiver Davante Adams, finally had his breakout game as a Jet (well, kind of), catching six passes for 72 yards.
  • They didn’t turn the ball over on offense and forced one takeaway on defense and committed only two penalties for 14 harmless yards.
  • Oh yes, and their fourth kicker in the past four games, Anders Carlson, made both of his field goal attempts — one from 58 yards to give them a 17-16 lead and one from 35 yards to give them a 27-22 lead with 2:41 remaining in the game.

If I told you those things all took place in the Jets game against the Colts on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, how much of your weekly paycheck would you have wagered on a Jets victory?

Hopefully, for the sake of your rent or mortgage, not a single penny.

Because despite doing all of the above things right, the Jets still found a way to wrong their tortured fan base, losing to the Colts, 28-27, to fall to an utterly embarrassing 3-8 entering their bye week.
