Jets fans unconvinced Davante Adams trade changes playoff trajectory

Jets’ fans aren’t buying it. Or if they are, they aren’t buying all of it.

Nearly two-thirds (2,368 of 3,565, at the time of writing) of fans who responded to a survey embedded in The Post’s breaking news coverage of the Davante Adams trade said they don’t believe the acquisition makes Gang Green a playoff team.

Adams lands with the Jets just one day after their debilitating 23-20 loss to the Bills on “Monday Night Football” at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets, had they avoided 110 yards worth of penalties, Aaron Rodgers completed the fourth-quarter comeback, or kicker Greg Zuerlein connected from either 32-yards or 43-yards, could have taken sole possession of first place in the AFC East.

Instead, they fell to 2-4 and third place in the division.

As of Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Football Power Index gives New York a 46% chance of reaching the playoffs. Those odds are right in the middle of the pack— eighth in the AFC and 16th in the NFL.

While the addition of Adams is likely to inject some adrenaline into an inconsistent Jets’ offense, the trade does little to address what many fans and pundits see as the team’s most glaring issues— namely, protecting the 40-year-old Super Bowl winning quarterback.

Follow the latest on the New York Jets’ trade for star receiver Davante Adams:

Rodgers’ affinity for Adams is well known, with The Post and others having speculated a reunion ever since their split in Green Bay.

During their tenure together on the Packers, the Rodgers-Adams connection resulted in 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns.

Those are the kind of numbers that should make Jets fans blush, though it’s not hard to imagine why Gang Green supporters need to see it to believe it.
