Kate Winslet has boosted her sex life by undergoing testosterone replacement therapy.

The British actress, 48, who has been married to husband Edward Abel Smith (formally known as Ned ‘Rocknroll) for 12 years, says she feels ‘sexy’ again after having the treatment.

And the Titanic star is encouraging other women who have seen their libido dip to look into their testosterone levels, believing that could be the reason why they’re put off sex.

Testosterone replacement therapy (known as TPT) is a prescription treatment that helps restore testosterone levels.

The mother-of-three said: ‘Sometimes women have a real dip in libido because there might be stuff going on with their thyroid.

What is testosterone replacement therapy?

TPT is a prescription treatment that helps restore testosterone levels

Studies have found that testosterone at supraphysiological, but not at physiological, levels can increase women’s sexual desire

In 2022, the NHS reported that nearly 5000 women aged 50 years and over were receiving the treatment

In 2015, just over 400 women were receiving the treatment on the NHS

‘There could also be stuff going on with your level of testosterone.

‘A lot of people don’t know this but women have testosterone in their body, when it runs out – like eggs – it’s gone, and once it’s gone you have to replace it and that is something that can be done and you’ll feel sexy again… I know.’

Kate was giving advice during a mini-agony aunt section in the How To Fail podcast.

A listener had asked for help to rediscover their sex drive.

Kate continued: ‘I would suggest for your physical self, have your thyroid levels checked and your testosterone levels checked well because those things could have a direct impact on how you’re actually feeling.

‘It’s not your fault, our bodies are weird and they behave in strange ways especially as we get older.

‘So there could be a dip in those hormonal levels for you that is contributing much more than you think to how you’re feeling about having sex with your boyfriend, so I would definitely go ahead and do that.’

Kate’s appearance has been the subject of intense scrutiny throughout her career, but now she’s never been more confident in her appearance as she believes women get ‘sexier’ as they get older.

Asked how she feels about her body now, the Oscar-winner says: ‘I’m great with it – I think I look flipping amazing. We have to own it, this is the thing.

‘We’re so conditioned, women, in our 40s to think ‘oh well I’m creeping closer to the end’. You think you’re going into menopause and you’ll stop having sex, your boobs are going to sag and your skin’s going to go crapey. First of all, so what? It’s just conditioning.

‘I think women as they get older get juicier and sexier and more embedded in their truth of who they are and more powerful, more able to walk through the world and care less and that is an empowering thing. I say to my friends all the time ‘you look amazing, you look great’.’

It’s not the first time Kate’s been open about her health issues, as she previously revealed she had a problem with incontinence, which was brought on by stress.

Plus, she has also documented previous weight concerns having admitted to having an eating disorder as she made her breakthrough in Hollywood in her early twenties.

The actress, who also serves as co-producer, undertakes nude scenes in the movie, but insists stripping off on camera is not ‘brave’.

She says: ‘It’s so f****** annoying, brave is going to the frontline, brave is an NHS nurse during Covid, that’s brave. It’s not flipping brave to go topless or wear no makeup or no Botox so you can move your face around and morph it into different characters. That’s not brave, that’s just being a real person.

‘So the use of the word brave? I think it’s because they haven’t come across a better word yet.’
