Kroger rolls out major update for shoppers set to transform how you save on groceries

Kroger is making customer access to its Weekly Digital Deals easier by introducing in-store flyers.

The supermarket chain began offering the flyers in stores for loyal shoppers to download all the deals on a variety of products.

‘We are always listening to our customers to create a better shopping experience,’ a Kroger spokesperson told DailyMail.com.

‘To make it simpler for our customers to take advantage of the full value our stores offer, we are providing an easy-to-use flyer that customers can scan to save with digital coupons.’

The flyers can be found near store entrances at most Kroger locations nationwide, and each coupon can be used up to five times.

To download the deals, loyalty members must scan the flyer’s bar code at checkout, enter a loyalty ID or scan loyalty cards, and select coupons to use.

The weekly sales start every Wednesday and previews of upcoming deals are available on Tuesdays.

The new access to deals comes after various changes Kroger implemented following its failed $25 billion merger with Albertsons.

Before the merger fallout, Kroger had been the center of an investigation over its use of electronic price labels on store shelves.

The investigation found that the chain had been using overcharging methods in at least 14 stores across 14 states and Washington DC.

Before the finding, Kroger caused a ruckus on social media after quietly shutting down Kroger ship after its failure to compete with Amazon and Walmart.

But customers were pleased when the retailer announced its plans to revive Diet Cherry Coke for a limited time later this month.

The chain made $45.12 billion in revenue in the first quarter of this year.

This narrowly missed Wall Street’s expectations, but the amount exceeded the company’s goal.

‘While first quarter sales and profitability exceeded our expectations, the macroeconomic environment remains uncertain and as a result other elements of our guidance remain unchanged,’ said CFO David Kennerly.

‘We continue to believe that our strategy focusing on fresh, Our Brands and eCommerce will continue to resonate with customers and our resilient model positions us well to navigate the current environment.’

Kroger is also busy shuttering over 60 underperforming stores nationwide.

The closures, which also include stores under the Harris Teeter and Pick ‘n Save banners, are set to be shut down by the end of 2026.

Most of this year’s closures will take place between July 18 and October 19, and at least 10 states will be losing stores, including Texas, Georgia, and Maryland.

Despite the mass closures, Kroger has no plans to lay off employees.

Mariano’s, Kroger’s sister store chain, recently closed stores as part of a ‘larger company-wide decision.’

Kroger has owned the Illinois-based chain for 10 years, but its future was in limbo in 2022 while the company was exploring the idea of merging with Albertsons.
