Labour to win biggest majority of any party since 1832, final YouGov poll shows

Good evening. Josh here to take you through the day’s news on the eve of the general election.

A major poll has predicted that Labour will win the largest majority of any single party since 1832 on Thursday. Meanwhile, a leading City forecaster has warned that Rachel Reeves will launch a £15bn tax raid on pensions, capital gains and inheritance this autumn if Labour wins a super-majority.

Elsewhere, Mark Cavendish has become the most successful Tour de France stage winner of all time after claiming his 35th victory.

The YouGov MRP poll of 42,758 voters found that Sir Keir Starmer’s party could win 431 seats in total and a majority of 212 – larger than Sir Tony Blair’s majority of 179 in 1997. The Conservatives were forecast to lose nearly three-quarters of the seats won in 2019, falling from 365 to 102 – follow the latest here.
