Matt Baker made a rare home admission on Sunday Brunch as he opened up about life with his family

Matt Baker has opened up about a “stressful” time in his life in a rare family confession.

The beloved TV star is a proud dad to Luke and Molly, whom he shares with wife and childhood sweetheart Nicola Mooney. And over in the Baker household at the moment, according to the Countryfile presenter, it is a “stressful” time.

On Sunday (April 6) Matt appeared on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch – hosted by Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer to chat about his new show, Our Dream Farm, where seven shortlisted hopefuls compete for a ten-year farm tenancy on 340 acres of National Trust land.

During the episode, Matt made a rare admission about his home life. He shared: «We’re going through GCSEs and A-levels at the moment in our house, a double whammy.»

Revealing his daughter’s doing her GCSEs, Matt said: “It’s quite good to remember that time in your life when you were sitting them. She’s using kind of a flash cards system so I’m the quiz master.”

Simon Rimmer quizzed him: «Are you cracking the whip with them Matt? Or are you kind of laid-back?» Matt continued: “I’m trying to remain as chill as possible because there’s still a bit of time to go. It’s on the horizon, and it’s getting closer.»

He added: «It’s quite fun, I’m trying to keep it fun.” Host Tim Lovejoy then said how all of his daughters were “really stressed” when they were taking their exams.

Matt replied: “It is a stressful time, it’s the biggest time for them in that part of their life. But I’m sure they’ll do alright. Whatever they do they work hard.»

Matt and wife Nicola met as teenagers. In a 2011 interview with The Express, the TV presenter expressed his gratitude for meeting his wife Nicola before he shot to fame.

«I’m so lucky that I met my wife Nicola before any of this telly lark started. I knew way back then she was the one and I don’t think I could have done all this without her,» he confessed.

The pair tied the knot at Winston in Teesdale in 2004, and have since welcomed two children, Luke, 17, and Molly, 15.

In 2021, Matt and his family swapped their home in the Chilterns for the Durham countryside amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The family of four made the move north to assist Matt’s father with running the farm after his mother Janice suffered injuries from being trampled by a flock of sheep.
