Matthew Perry‘s ex-girlfriend has urged the 2024 Academy Awards to pay tribute to the late Hollywood actor as part of the In Memorium section.
Kayti Edwards, who dated him in 2006 and worked as his assistant in 2011, said it was ‘his dream to be recognised’ after the BAFTAs failed to mention him last month.
Matthew was found face-down in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home on October 28 last year at the age of 54, with the autopsy confirming that he died from the ‘acute effects of ketamine’ and drowning.
In February, fans were outraged when he was left off the memoriam list at the 77th EE British Academy Film Awards when they paid tribute to a host of other actors.
Speaking to The Mirror, Kayti said: ‘I know that it would mean a lot for him to be honoured at the Oscars in some way.’

Kayti Edwards, who dated him in 2006 and worked as his assistant in 2011, said it was ‘his dream to be recognised’ after the BAFTAs failed to mention him last month
She continued: ‘I remember having a conversation with him about how it was always his dream to be recognised and not just for Friends.
‘He was always aware of the sad reality that Friends got tons of awards…but personally, I don’t think he got one.’
Despite his illustrious career in Hollywood after finding fame as Chandler Bing on the NBC sitcom, he was not included in the tribute at the BAFTAs annual awards ceremony.
Following his rise to fame on the 1990s sitcom alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc, he starred in a host of films including The Kid with Bruce Willis and Fools Rush In with Salma Hayek as well as The Whole Nine Yards and Birds of America.
In 2009, he starred alongside Zac Efron in 17 Again in what became his final cinematic appearance.
Viewers were left furious at the lack of mention, as one fumed: ‘I love the BAFTAs so much right. I watch it religiously every year.
A spokesperson later confirmed that Matthew would be remembered during the television awards in May because of his signature role.
A spokesman said: ‘I can confirm he will be remembered in our forthcoming Television Awards’.

In December, the medical examiner’s report revealed that he died from the ‘acute effects of ketamine’ and drowning – having similar quantities of ketamine in his system as a hospital patient under general anaesthetic.
Kayti has since demanded police re-open the investigation into his death amid fears he had ‘rogue’ medical staff giving him drugs as she did not believe he bought ketamine from the street.
The medical examiner reported that Perry had been sober for 19 months, and there was no trace of heroin, cocaine, meth or fentanyl in his system.
Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for depression. But his final session was a week and a half before he died, meaning it did not directly cause his death.
Edwards said she felt that the ketamine treatment would have pushed him back to doing drugs beyond the doctor’s office.
