Baseball fans and announcers enjoyed a laugh at the expense of Cubs star Seiya Suzuki on Monday night.

Midway through Chicago’s game against the Athletics, the Japanese star was seen sprinting across the field, closely followed by a member of team staff.

There was an ‘enormous eruption’ of laughter in the Cubs dugout, according to the broadcast crew, as Suzuki made what was described as a ‘walk of shame’.

It was assumed that he needed to find a restroom. But Chicago was playing at the A’s temporary new home in Sacramento.

And the 14,000-capacity stadium has a rather glaring design flaw: the clubhouses are situated beyond the wall in left-center field.

Suzuki seemed to see the funny side of his predicament – the outfielder appeared to be smiling as he made the long run across the field.
