A Cuban reggaeton star was arrested on multiple weapon charges after he was caught on video aiming his weapon at another drive from his McLaren in a Miami highway.
Ovi, whose real name is Ovidio Crespo-Retureta, was taken into custody during a traffic stop Tuesday in Doral, a day after the incident took place near the Florida Turnpike.
A Florida Highway Patrol car’s dashcam showed cops approaching the Ovi’s Lamborghini Urus and pointing their weapons at him. He was dragged out the car and thrown to the ground.
The 27-year-old was charged Wednesday with aggravated assault with deadly weapon, improper exhibition of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

He appeared before a court judge Wednesday and his bond was set at $6.500 Wednesday, but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued an immigration hold, which requires that a defendant be held for 48 hours until the agency can take custody of the defendant.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Ovi was traveling Monday afternoon in his McLaren in West Miami-Dade when he nearly collided with Giuseppe Benigni as he changed lanes.
A video filmed by Benigni showed Ovi alleged pointing his gun out the driver’s window.
‘Ladies and gentlemen, the singer Ovi pulled out a gun and threatened me here in Miami,’ Benigni in the Instagram post. ‘I’m driving and I see a car crossing in front of me, a McLaren. I honk my horn because it almost hit me and when I honk, he stops and pulls out a gun.’

Benigni, a model, was fearful of being shot at by Ovi posted a clip of the disturbing incident on his Instagram account.
‘How do these people who call themselves artists, singers commit crimes and still threaten you and, they pull out their guns at you?’ he said. ‘What would have happened if they had shot him, if they had really shot me?
‘I don’t understand these people who become artists and then want to be criminals, they want to be criminals threatening people on the street.’
Ovi had a handgun in his waistband when police stopped the Lamborghini Urus he was driving, the police report said. Cops recovered a backpack inside the vehicle that had two Percocet pills.
Police found a taser in the SUV’s floorboard and a male passenger also had one in his waistband.
The gun incident is not Ovi’s first brush with the law.
He was arrested in March 2022 after allegedly assaulting his then-girlfriend while she was carrying their newborn son.
He was also taken into custody in December 2021 following a fight with a reggaeton singer Manny La Figura outside a jewelry store.
