The 21-year-old, who won the Nigerian national title in June, had also missed out on the Tokyo Games after Nigeria failed to meet minimum anti-doping testing requirements for a number of its athletes, as required by track and field’s Athletics Integrity Unit. “If those responsible are NOT held accountable for taking this opportunity from me, neither organisation can EVER be trusted in the future!” wrote Ofili on Instagram.
Ofili is listed on a Team Nigeria poster as being in the 100m team but World Athletics says she was only ever entered for the 200m and 4x100m relays by the Nigerian National Olympic Committee
Nigeria’s sports minister, John Enoh, said he had been in contact with officials from the country’s athletics federation and is seeking urgent answers.
Solomon Ogba, a vice president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, told the BBC: “We are trying to get to the root of it, because she qualified in our trials and the result was sent to World Athletics. We just confirmed that. Normally, World Athletics will send [entries] for Paris 2024. That is where the confusion is.”
