An Olympic skier has lifted the lid on the ‘unbearable’ pain he endured after suffering a frozen penis for the second time.
Remi Lindholm, 27, represented Finland in the gruelling Men’s 50km Cross-Country at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Renowned as one of the Winter Olympics’ most challenging events physically, cross-country skiing can see athletes burn up to 1,000 calories and hour, according to research.
Due to fierce winds and brutal weather conditions in 2022, the race was reduced to a distance of 30km — but it didn’t stop Lindholm suffering from a nasty affliction.
The event, which was won by Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov, saw Lindholm finish in 28th position after being forced to battle through with a frozen penis.
After racing for approximately one hour and 16 minutes in -17C temperatures, Lindholm admitted he had endured the nightmare injury, initially reported by Finnish media outlet IL.

Lindholm often posts pictures of him enduring freezing temperatures on his Instagram page
‘You can probably guess what was on the ice when I got to the finish line. It was one of the worst competitions I’ve been in,’ he said.
‘It was just about battling through. When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable.’
Officials gave Lindholm a heat bag after the race in an attempt to thaw out his frozen body parts.
The 2022 Winter Olympics marked the second time he had suffered from the affliction, having already done so during the Ruka World Cup the previous year.
Lifting the lid on the excruciating pain — and how it compared to the Ruka World Cup — he told the Mirror: ‘It was [worse this time]. Pretty unbearable pain.’
Thursday this week will mark a year until the start of the 2026 Winter Olympics, which gets underway in Milan on February 6.
It is not yet known whether Lindholm, who finished second in the Finlandia Ski Marathon Freestyle just a few days ago, will brave the freezing temperatures at the Winter Olympics next year.
