White Sox outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez is headed to the Orioles in a late trade deadline deal, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.
Chicago will receive minor league reliever Trey McGough in return for the deal, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported.
The Post’s Joel Sherman added that dealing Jimenez, who’s on a six-year $43 million deal, was primarily a salary dump for the White Sox.
Jimenez is in the final guaranteed year of his contract, though he does have club options valued at $16.5 million and $18.5 million in 2025 and 2026, respectively, according to Spotrac.
The trade was one of the more notable deadline day deals on Tuesday as the Orioles acquired a player who has the potential to be a spark for the Baltimore offense.
Jimenez, 27, entered the league as a highly touted prospect but has been hampered by injuries over the course of his six years in the majors.
There have been flashes of the power hitter he can be — hitting 31 home runs during his rookie season in 2019 and winning a Silver Slugger in 2020.
However, from 2021-23, he appeared in 53 percent of all possible White Sox games.
Overall, Jimenez has averaged 95 games per season over his last five years, which does not include the 2020 COVID-shortened season.
He has slashed .240/.297/.345 with just five homers and 16 RBIs in a down 2024.
The hope now for the Orioles is that Jimenez can bring something to Baltimore alongside a lineup that already includes the likes of Gunnar Henderson and Anthony Santander.
The Orioles were plenty busy just before Wednesday’s 6 p.m. ET trade deadline, adding lefty reliever Gregory Soto in a trade with the Phillies.
Soto has a 4.08 ERA in 35 ⅓ innings, striking out 44 batters this season.
They also added left-hander Trevor Rogers in a trade with the Marlins earlier in the day.
