Visitors may make a mark but not pick off Cherries
Saints have not won any of their first five top-flight games after achieving promotion via the Championship play-offs last term, but should be positive as they head the short distance along the South Coast for this evening’s clash with their old rivals.
While Bournemouth look the stronger side and should come away with the points, they have kept just two clean sheets in their previous 12 league games at the Vitality.
So it would not be a surprise if Southampton score, having won on penalties at Everton in the Carabao Cup and then been denied a home victory over Ipswich Town by a Tractor Boys equaliser in added time.
With the likelihood of an open game, back the Cherries to take the points but with both teams netting as the hosts look for just their second Premier League win of the season.
Bournemouth vs Southampton tip 1: Bournemouth and both teams to score @ 7/4 with Sky Bet
Semenyo looks the hosts’ chief threat
Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has scored twice for Bournemouth this season and has shown he is not afraid to have an effort at goal.
Only Manchester City frontman Erling Haaland had more shots than Semenyo’s tally of 24 from his first five matches, and the Cherries man was unfortunate to have an attempt ruled out against Liverpool before the Reds took over to claim a 3-0 win at Anfield nine days ago.
Take a chance that he will be able to find the target again at the Vitality this evening.
Bournemouth vs Southampton tip 2: Antoine Semenyo to score at any time @ 11/10 with Sky Bet
Downes could find his way into the book
Three elements can be combined for a bet builder from the final match of Premier League Gameweek 6, starting with there being at least three goals – something that has happened in five of Southampton’s past seven away matches.
Although these teams have just one top-flight win between them this term, they have forced a decent number of corners in their opening five games.
The Cherries have the fifth-highest tally (33) while Saints are ninth with 26, so expect more than 10 flag kicks in the fixture.
Southampton midfielder Flynn Downes is expected to be in the thick of the action and he could pick up his third booking of the season. He was cautioned against Nottingham Forest and Ipswich, and escaped a card in Saints’ opening defeat at Newcastle United despite committing five fouls.
Bournemouth vs Southampton tip 3: Over 10 corners, over 2.5 goals and Flynn Downes to be booked @ 9/2 with Sky Bet
