Rachel Reeves has suggested that pensioners can afford the Government’s cut to winter fuel payments because of increases in the state pension and energy bills being lower than in previous years.

The Chancellor defended the decision to scrap winter fuel payments for 10 million pensioners as part of Labour’s efforts to balance the books.
