Fans of Sex and the City will soon get to watch Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha galavant around New York City on Netflix.
The streamer has revealed that all 6 seasons of the popular HBO series will be available on the platform starting April 1.
“Hello, lover! Sex and the City — The Complete Series — is coming to Netflix on April 1,” captioned a post on X (formerly Twitter).
News that the show would be the next Warner Bros. Discovery title to make its way to Netflix was announced in January after a deal was struck between the two companies.
Warner had developed a sequel series called And Just Like That… that debuted in 2021 and is still in production. It will remain on Max for the foreseeable future.
There have been several reactions to the news of Sex and the City coming to Netflix, including some mentioning how Gen Z will get the opportunity to experience the show. Many users fired back, however, noting that Gen Z has already known about it.
Sex and the City isn’t the first Warner Bros. Discovery series that Netflix was granted exclusive rights for. All five seasons of Issa Rae’s Insecure were made available on the platform last July, followed by Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under and The Pacific.
Netflix also announced the news on Instagram, captioning the post: “he was a lawyer… he was a sandwich. and i am freaking out bc SEX AND THE CITY the complete series is streaming in the us starting april 1.”
The caption is a reference to the Season 3 episode “Running With Scissors,” in which Miranda (a corporate lawyer) confronts a man dressed as a sandwich mascot after he catcalls her. Although she is pleasantly surprised with his looks, she decides she doesn’t want to date a sandwich.
Back in January, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos shared that he is “thrilled that the studios are more open to licensing again” during a quarterly earnings call with investors, noting that he’s also “thrilled to tell them [that they] are open for business.”
This could only mean that Netflix subscribers can plan to see more legacy content on the platform in the future.
