Simon Pegg has opened up about the final Mission Impossible movie, in which he reprises his role as Benji Dunn

Simon Pegg has shared some behind-the-scenes insights into the gruelling conditions faced during the filming of the final Mission Impossible movie.

Chatting on The One Show last Friday (16 May), Simon gave fans a sneak peek into what went down while shooting Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, set to hit the big screen on 21 May.

Simon was accompanied by his co-star Hannah Waddingham on the BBC programme, hosted by Roman Kemp and Alex Jones.

During the show, Roman seized the chance to ask Simon about the extreme cold they endured while filming on a secluded island near Norway, where temperatures plummeted to minus 40 degrees.

Simon disclosed: «We were filming on the frozen sea and it was incredibly cold and we were looked after by a group called PolaX, who were there to protect us from the elements because you can get frostbite very quickly.»

He continued: «You have what is called frost nip, which is when your skin goes white and as soon as they see that, they are watching the monitors and they come in and blow a hair dryer on your face to warm you up.»

Further detailing their Arctic adventures, Simon mentioned regular sightings of polar bears during filming, describing the encounters as both «terrifying» and «incredible».

Simon also dropped hints about the development of his character Benji Dunn in the forthcoming film, which is rumoured to be the concluding chapter of the eight-part series, reports the Express.

Speaking about his character’s progress, Simon reminisced: «When I first played Benji in MI3, he was a lab technician, he wasn’t even in the field. Then in Ghost Protocol he becomes a Field Agent.»

He continued detailing Benji’s journey across the Mission Impossible films: «Then over the six films that I’ve done, each film he’s evolved a little bit, got a little bit more capable. In this film, he’s right there in the thick of it because he’s given some serious responsibilities by Ethan.»

On the same episode, Hannah divulged her experiences shooting Mission Impossible, where she portrays Admiral Neely.

She took a moment to commend her colleague Simon warmly, acknowledging: «This man brings so much heart and comedy at the same time. I really think he’s so underrated as a dramatic actor.»

The One Show airs on weekdays on BBC One at 7pm. Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning will be released in cinemas on 21 May.
