Sir Elton John took to the stage for a special performance as Celine Dion presented an award at the MFEI Spirit of Life gala.

Stars gathered in Los Angeles on Tuesday for the Music, Film and Entertainment Industry gala, which honoured AEG Presents chairman Jay Marciano.

The event, which was held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall and hosted by US cancer research and treatment organisation City of Hope, saw music legend Elton, 77, delight gala guests with some tunes at his piano.

The English singer-songwriter showed off his characteristically eccentric style as he sported a bright yellow suit and purple spectacles for the performance.

Canadian singer Celine, 56, was also in attendance at the event, as she took to the lectern to honour Jay with the prestigious award.

She looked stunning in a black velvet ruched figure-hugging midi-dress, with a sequined mesh bodysuit layered underneath.

Celine paired the look with diamante platform heels and slicked her hair back into a bun.

She finished off the look with a smokey eye to match her look, as she posed with Jay after giving him the award.

Also in attendance on Tuesday was Elton’s writing partner and friend Bernie Taupin, who looked dapper in a black suit with a t-shirt.

He paired the look with a collection of bling necklaces, a bowler hat and sunglasses.

American actress Riki Lyndhome was another star invited to the gala, as she graced the carpet in a simple black skater dress.

She was seen posing for snaps with actor and comedian Fred Armisen, who sported a navy blazer with a grey cardigan and matching trousers.

Singer and rapper Aloe Blacc looked stylish in a fitted leather jacket and tailored trousers, as well as smart shoes and a fedora hat.

Another star to step out was YouTuber Todrick Hall, who also sported a leather jacket as well as a baseball cap.

Elton’s appearance comes after he made a candid confession about mortality as he opened up about death in his new documentary.

The Your Song hitmaker has faced a multitude of health issues recently after he had both knees replaced in as well his right hip following a fall, which forced him to delay his farewell tour in 2021.

And in his new biopic Never Too Late, the Rocket Man singer pondered on his own mortality as he confessed he often thinks about life and death.

In one scene from the film, The Mirror revealed Elton sits in the dressing room on his final tour. Looking at his possessions he begins: ‘I wonder what is going to happen to all of this stuff when I finish? This is the latter time of my life. I don’t know how much time I have left.

‘You think about that more when you get to my age. You think about life and death. You think, «Well, I just want to be where I want to be now.»‘

He added: ‘I don’t have to work after this. I will work and do records and putting radio shows together but travelling takes so much out of you.

‘It is very tiring. I am used to it. I am a veteran at it but this is where you start to think about mortality.’

Sir Elton’s new Disney+ documentary and musical is a look back at his astonishing life in the early days of his fifty-year long career.

The film features never-before-seen footage including a look into Elton’s handwritten diaries, the audio tapes from the landmark Rolling Stone interview and John Lennon joining him on stage for three songs after his Thanksgiving 1974 Madison Square Garden show.

As he prepares for his final concert in North America at Dodger Stadium, Elton takes viewers back in time and recounts the extraordinary highs and heartbreaking lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse and addiction.
